Clearsky Adventure Centre couldn’t be in a better place for learning paddling skills. We’re beside the sheltered flat water of Castle Ward Bay and along the newly launched Strangford Lough Canoe Trail and Salt Island Bothy.

Paddle Power for Beginners
Between March and September we run sea kayak sessions in the evenings. Ideal for complete beginners it is a chance to learn some new skills, talk to the seal pups swimming beside your boat and see Strangford Lough in all its beauty as the sun goes down on Castle Ward estate.

Improvers Paddle Power
For those with that little bit of experience try out our range of modern crafts on the water and progress your skills to the next level under the guidance of our expert coaches. The opportunity to obtain BCU proficiency star awards will exist on the day.
Island Overnight Experience
After planning our route and packing our equipment in the kayaks we will depart Castle Ward and paddle out to the newly opened National Trust Salt Island Bothy for an overnight stay. We will be following the new Strangford Lough Canoe Trail and will bring all our supplies with us in the kayaks, enjoying a BBQ on the island that evening while watching the sun go down! The next morning we will venture around some of the other islands on the Lough before returning to the centre in the afternoon.
Using our state-of-the-art kayaks and paddles you will develop and fine tune your skills as well as learn more advanced paddle strokes, how to cope with unstable sea conditions with confidence and techniques for staying as safe as possible whilst on the water. There may also be scope to attain BCU proficiency star awards over the two days depending on folk’s abilities and sea conditions.
